Congratulations to Our CHW Program Graduates!
Best Friends Community Services congratulates recent graduates of the Community Health Worker (CHW) Program. The state certification program is sponsored by the University of Texas at Tyler, and offered through the Department of Health and Human Services. Recent graduates, also employees or affiliates of Best Friends, completed 160 hours of course-work and were awarded a two-year certification, with continuing education credit to maintain certifications. An article in the Messenger, stated that the program was designed to help graduates “enhance their current skills, to better communicate with others and to learn more about how to help community members.”
Alphia “Nikki” Steinsbo, Executive Director of Best Friends Community Services, saw a chance to open up more opportunities for Best Friends to help in the region, by becoming a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship site. Nikki is passionate about offering the best care possible to families in and around our community. She expects and maintains a high standard of excellence from her employees and affiliates.
A ceremony was held in Grapeland, TX at the First Christian Memorial Church on September 27, 2017. Graduates were: Asa Butler, JoAnn Salmon, Barbara Shurden, Shirie Taylor, Demetria Toliver, Stephanie Walker, Lavaya Walton and Christy Willis-Gillian.
